Privacy and Confidentiality Policy
Nepean Disability Support Organisation is committed to providing quality services and respecting participants’ rights. Participants’ right to privacy and confidentiality will be recognised, respected, and protected in all aspects.
All information is handled in line with the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework, with consistent processes that respect and protect each participant’s personal privacy and confidentiality.
Nepean Disability Support Organisation ensures confidential documents are handled safely and will not disclose confidential information to anyone outside the organisation or the participant without consent.
Our Commitment
- No confidential or sensitive company documents will be reviewed without proper authorisation.
- We maintain the confidentiality of medical results.
- We will not disclose, copy, release, sell, alter, or destroy any confidential information (electronic or paper-based) without management approval.
- We protect the privacy of both participants and workers at all times.
Workers’ Responsibilities
All workers complete Form19. Privacy & Confidentiality Agreement to confirm they understand and will meet confidentiality requirements.
Workers must not disclose confidential information to anyone outside Nepean Disability Support Organisation or the participant (unless consent is obtained). Confidential information includes, but is not limited to:
- Participant personal information and medical examination results
- Information about workers, contractors, and volunteers
- Business information (financial records, reports, memos, contracts, programs, technology)
- Company processes, operations, and intellectual property
- Service specifications
- Any other information regarding company activities that could negatively impact the company if disclosed
Management Responsibilities
Enquiries & Complaints
All privacy and confidentiality enquiries or complaints are directed to the Managing Director.
If a breach or unauthorised access is identified, we will take steps to reduce harm. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner may be involved where appropriate.
Participant Rights & Consent
- Participants may choose whether to be involved in an NDIS audit.
- Participants are informed what personal information is collected and why (including any audio/visual recordings) via the Participant Handbook.
How We Manage Records
Security & Access
- No record will be lost, modified, or disclosed without authorisation.
- Access is provided in ways that do not breach confidentiality.
No Sale of Information
No member of Nepean Disability Support Organisation may sell or accept payment for the disclosure of personal information.
When We Collect Information
We only collect information when:
- It is required for service provision; and
- It can be handled securely within Nepean Disability Support Organisation’s databases.
